Chemical Peels: Grow New Healthy Skin

Chemical peels consist of a solution that is designed to improve and smooth the texture of skin by removing the dead and damaged skin of the outer layers. A typical client who receives chemical peels experiences blemishes often and notices hyperpigmentation and fine lines beginning to develop.

There are several solutions that are considered chemical peels, each designed for individual’s customary needs. Chemical peels are primarily cosmetic; to enhance skin clarity and appearance; however, acne scars have been known to fade over a series of treatments. Ultimately, chemical peels produce the growth of new healthy skin for long-lasting results which can be performed on most body parts including; face, neck, chest, hands and more. Chemical peels are safe procedures when treated by a medical professional or licensed medical aesthetician.

There are certain precautions involved with the chemical peel procedure such as, avoiding sunlight for over the course of treatments and discontinue the use of select antibiotics (check with your dermatologist for a more specific prescription list).

A medical aesthetician will begin by cleansing the skin for best penetration results. Once the skin is properly cleansed, a thin layer of the peel is spread on the treated area and the solution exfoliates the dead skin cells and stimulates new cell growth over time. The strength of the peel is crucial to procedure performance and post-treatment actions. Some patients have mentioned they have noticed slight redness, tightening of the skin and a slight tingling. During the procedure, most patients experience a warm to somewhat hot sensation that lasts a few minutes, followed by a tingling sensation. Cool compresses may be applied to help alleviate the warm feeling.

The end result of a chemical peel is soft, renewed skin. Chemical peels average cost begins at $50 and can cost up to a thousand depending upon the strength of the peel. You will begin to see results as soon as completing your first treatment. For milder peels, allow 3 to 4 weeks in between session for best results. Most clients return to work after their facial.

Generally, most individuals are great candidates for chemical peels with a few exceptions; no acne cream or lotions being used for the past 2 weeks and no oral medications that cause skin to be hypersensitive (Retin-A, Renova, or glycolic acid). If you are interested in a chemical peel, consult with a skin specialist for your best treatment options. Always share medical history and current medications to your doctor for safety.
