Chemical Peels: Improve the Appearance of Your Skin!Chemical Peels, also known as derma-peeling, is used to improve the appearance of skin. There are many different strengths and solutions of chemical peels intended for different skin types and skin concerns. An ideal candidate for chemical peels has fine lines caused by sun damage, mild scarring, mild acne or just improve overall skin tone. Chemical peels are also used to treat melasma, a skin condition characterized by irregularly shaped patches of brown skin commonly found on the face and neck from hormone issues, which are very common with women directly following pregnancy. All areas of the body can get treated with peels. Some of the most common body parts are: face, neck, chest and hands. After cleansing the skin, a solution is applied by a licensed medical aesthetician in a medical environment which causes skin to shed overtime to reveal smoother, regenerated skin to appear. The solution is left on the skin for a short period of time. Chemical peels are not only great facials to improve skin condition, but also maintain healthy looking skin at any age. Prior to a chemical peel, your skin specialist will ask you background questions and medical history to determine the proper steps before the chemical peel is prepared. Certain drugs need to be discontinued such as, Retin-A or glycolic acid, this is because the skin has become very sensitive to all solutions and outside factors. An actual procedure will feel like a warm sensation that lasts a few minutes that eventually can be cooled with a cold compress. The solution is usually left on the skin for a few minutes to 15 minutes. Immediately following the peel, your skin will appear pinkish or slightly red, which will dissipate shortly after. Since there are many variations of peels, a consultation is advised to discuss your skin concerns and ultimate goals. It is important to avoid sunlight immediately after treatment also, to keep your skin hydrated after the peel- this will give you better results. Chemical peels on average will cost a minimum of $50 up to a thousand depending upon the strength. Chemical peels performed at a maintenance level should be performed once a month; more often if combating a blemish/hyperpigmentation issue. It is important that your doctor or specialist understand what you want to achieve and that you understand what results you can realistically expect. Some patients see results after their first peel. |
