Permanent Hair Removal and Permanent Reduction

Electrolysis removes hair by damaging the follicles to the extent that they can no longer produce a root bulb. Because each follicle is targeted individually, the technician can ensure that each follicle in the area has been treated and that growth will not reoccur.

Laser removal, by contrast, is considered a permanent hair reduction. Many people see long-lasting results, but as many as 10 percent will see no change at all. Others will see a marked reduction in growth in the treated area but not a total elimination. It is also not suited for all skin and hair types.

Why would anyone choose light-based methods over electrolysis, then? There are several reasons to do so. Electrolysis is a long, tedious process. Each follicle must be treated. In areas of dense growth, that can take hours per session, and there will be several sessions. Laser methods can treat an area quickly, because the machine will target all follicles under the light at the same time. Another point in favor of laser treatment is pain. Electrolysis is almost universally painful. Laser treatment is often described as uncomfortable at worst.
