Laser Hair Removal and IPL Technology

Laser hair removal uses light to burn the root and the surrounding follicle, permanently damaging it and preventing or retarding regrowth.

IPL systems work in the same way as laser systems, but they utilize a broadband light instead of more restricted wavelengths. The results are generally the same for both procedures, with minor skin irritation and some swelling immediately following the procedure cited as the most common side effects.

Whether or not either technique will result in permanent removal is hard to tell. Some people respond very well to treatment and never experience regrowth. Some experience a permanent reduction in the amount of growth in the area. Others find that it does nothing for them at all.

The color of the patient's skin and hair can have an effect, with blond and gray hairs responding least well and black and brown hair responding best. Consult with an esthetician or medical professional to find out what about likely results.
