Illinois Hair Removal Treatment Techniques

Three common professional hair removal techniques are waxing, electrolysis and laser treatments. All three are popular alternatives to home remedies, such as shaving and depilatory creams, and all three have their advantages and disadvantages.

Professional Hair Removal Techniques: The Pros and Cons

Waxing, or sugaring, has the advantage of being quick. It is also relatively inexpensive, at least when compared to other professional hair removal techniques. It can be very painful, though, especially on delicate areas. Fortunately, the pain lasts only a short time. The results are only temporary, too, which means repeat visits will be necessary.

Electrolysis is the only hair removal technique that can be considered permanent. The process takes a long time, though. With a course of several treatments, each lasting an hour or more depending on the size of the area, a client can end up spending a lot of time at the salon. It can also be very painful for some.

Laser techniques, including IPL, are faster than electrolysis, longer lasting than waxing and generally less painful than either. They don't work for all people, though, and can have unpleasant side effects for a few patients.
