PhotoFacials - What You Want to Know

Photofacial, also known as laser skin rejuvenation is a complete facial that combats hyperpigmentation for a more even, brighter skin tone. Hyperpigmentation can be seen in many different forms including; sun spots, age spots, rosacea, broken capillaries and more. Laser photofacials also decrease pore size which helps eliminate blemishes and oily skin.

A photofacial can be completed by a licensed aesthetician or nurse. Commonly, a treatment will last at least 30 minutes. Depending on the severity of your skin condition, a series of treatments is suggested for long-term best results. Photofacial treatments have been described as soothing and relaxing due to the warm controlled pulses of the laser. The light technology delvers energy to the skin through a handpiece and is then targeted on your skin concerns.

Photofacials are non-invasive yet so effective; many patients get their treatment in during their lunch hour. Within a few days from your initial treatment, you can expect a “coffee ground” effect which means the sun damage and hyperpigmentation rises to the surface of your dermis. Once the damaged skin comes to the utmost layer of your skin, the skin damage will flake off and become lighter with each photofacial treatment. At the same time the laser heats the underlying skin, which stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers; new skin forms that's smoother and tighter. To enhance your photofacial results, book a microdermabrasion or chemical peel to slough of dead skin cells prior. This will allow for the laser to penetrate deeply for best results.

Directly after the treatment, you may experience a slight redness that will dissipate within a few minutes. Most schedule a microdermabrasion facial in between treatments to help slough off the dead skin, leaving beautiful skin. Patients can apply makeup before leaving the office and return to work.

You may begin to see results after just one treatment; more even tone and smoother. Sun spots will begin to lighten up and fine lines and wrinkles will become less noticeable. These improvements will become more defined with each treatment. Photofacials are very effective and safe and have been used by millions internationally for years to appear younger. Any body part can be treated with great success. The most commonly treated body parts are: face, neck, chest and hands.

While completing your treatments, it’s advised to stay out of sunlight. Your skin will be very sensitive to topical creams and sunlight. For more information or to schedule a consultation, contact a licensed skin professional.
